If you love Creole food and New Orleans-style cooking, then Shuckin’ & Jivin’ has all of your fixins with a menu of gumbo, jambalaya, Shrimp Po’ Boy, conch fritters, and grilled shrimp. The take out restaurant opened its doors in the summer of 2017 to much fan fare following the success of the owner’s catering company, Juanita’s Kitchen, and it’s Sweet Butter Dinner Show pop-up.
Shuckin & Jivin’ is an ode to Black American Southern culture. From the moment guests walk through the doors, the floor and wall decor gives the feeling that you’ve walked into a wooden shack in an old country town. The walls are adorned with photos of musical legends, Jazz greats, old school flash-backs, and candies and sodas that will remind those who grew up between the 1940’s to 70’s, of their childhood. The mixture of New Orleans Jazz & traditional Blues music that’s played creates the perfect backdrop for the restaurant’s theme.
The menu is a perfect Southern blend, featuring such dishes as the Nawlins Gumbo, Po’ boys, Southern Fried Chicken, Geechee Shrimp & Grits, Low Country Fried Fish, Greens and Mac & Cheese, Bayou Red Beans, Cajun Shrimp or Chicken Pasta, and their signature Nini Bread. The dessert menu is comprised of pound cake, red velvet cake, peach cobbler, bread pudding, sweet potato pie, banana pudding, strawberry shortcake, lemon cake and much more. Not only will they satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth, but Shuckin & Jivin is one of the only places in Miami where all desserts are homemade.
